Freelance translator, interpreter and post-editor opportunities

LinguaVox works with independent translators, interpreters, post-editors, revisers and other language professionals across a wide range of languages and specialist fields. We regularly add experienced professionals to our supplier database so that we can contact suitable linguists when new projects match their language combinations, subject expertise and professional background.

We welcome applications for all language pairs and areas of specialisation. We also work with audiovisual linguists, subtitlers, transcription specialists, voice artists and multilingual DTP professionals.

Applications must be submitted through our linguist registration system, which is currently available in English and Spanish.

Language professionals we work with

Different assignments call for different skills. A technical manual, an interpreting assignment, a pharmaceutical document and a subtitling project cannot be handled in the same way. We therefore maintain a broad network of independent professionals and select collaborators according to the requirements of each project.

Professional translators

We are interested in hearing from experienced translators working in any language combination.

Our projects cover technical, legal, medical, pharmaceutical, financial, scientific, commercial, corporate, institutional, software, website and other specialist content. We also work with sworn, certified or officially authorised translators where the destination country or receiving authority requires a particular form of certified translation.

There is no closed list of language pairs. Translators working with less frequently requested languages are also welcome to register. Demand changes over time, and a combination that is not required regularly may become necessary for a particular client or multilingual project.

Post-editors

Professional post-editing involves much more than making machine-translated text read more smoothly. A post-editor needs to compare the output with the source, identify errors in meaning, terminology, grammar, style and consistency, and decide when a sentence needs to be rewritten or translated again.

We are interested in experienced post-editors who understand professional machine translation workflows and can work with translation memories, terminology databases, glossaries and project-specific instructions.

Revisers, editors and proofreaders

We work with professionals who specialise in different stages of linguistic quality control.

A reviser performs a bilingual check against the source text, looking for mistranslations, omissions, terminology problems, inconsistencies and other issues that may affect accuracy or suitability for purpose.

Editing and monolingual review focus on the target-language text itself, including clarity, flow, register and consistency. Proofreading is generally carried out at a later stage, when a document is close to publication or has already been laid out.

Interpreters

LinguaVox also works with professional interpreters for both on-site and remote assignments.

We are interested in interpreters with experience in simultaneous, consecutive and liaison interpreting, including business meetings, conferences, technical visits, negotiations, training sessions, institutional events and other settings where spoken communication needs to move accurately between languages.

Subject knowledge can be particularly important in legal, medical, technical and corporate interpreting. Applicants should describe their interpreting experience and specialist areas clearly when completing their profile.

Audiovisual translators and subtitlers

Audiovisual translation requires its own set of linguistic and technical skills. We work with professionals who translate and adapt spoken content for subtitles, voice-over, dubbing and other audiovisual formats.

Subtitlers need to take account of timing, reading speed, segmentation, line length and synchronisation rather than treating subtitles as ordinary written translation. We are also interested in professionals who can create subtitle files, translate existing subtitles or adapt scripts for recording.

Transcription specialists

Audio and video projects often require an accurate transcript before translation or adaptation can begin.

We therefore work with transcription professionals who can handle interviews, presentations, training material, corporate recordings and other spoken content. Depending on the project, the transcript may later be translated, subtitled, adapted for voice-over or used as a standalone deliverable.

Voice artists and narrators

We maintain a network of professional voice artists for multilingual audiovisual projects.

Assignments may include corporate videos, training material, product demonstrations, presentations, educational content and other formats requiring recorded speech. Experience in following pronunciation guides, timing requirements, recording instructions and technical specifications is important.

Applicants should provide accurate information about their language variety, accent, recording facilities and previous voice work where relevant.

Multilingual DTP specialists

Translation frequently changes the length and structure of a document. Text boxes, tables, captions, graphics and page breaks may all need adjustment before the translated material is ready for publication.

We work with multilingual DTP specialists who can prepare translated documents in applications such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, FrameMaker and Microsoft Office.

These assignments may involve layout adjustment, checking text expansion, correcting misplaced or truncated content, preparing print-ready files and ensuring that the final document remains usable in the target language.

Requirements for working with LinguaVox

LinguaVox works with experienced independent professionals. We do not add translators without professional experience to our regular supplier database.

Collaborators must also be legally able to issue invoices for the services they provide. This applies to professionals based in any country. The precise legal or tax status may differ from one jurisdiction to another, but applicants must be able to provide their services on a professional, invoiced basis.

For translators and revisers, we take professional qualifications, experience, subject knowledge and linguistic competence into account when assessing a profile. ISO 17100 recognises defined professional competences and different routes to demonstrating the necessary qualifications and experience. Post-editors should have the linguistic and technical competence required to assess machine-translation output against the source and produce the agreed level of quality. Information about full post-editing and ISO 18587 is available at iso18587.com.

We also consider subject-matter expertise, tools used, familiarity with translation technologies, relevant professional experience and the type of assignments previously completed.

All languages and specialist fields

We accept applications from professionals working in all language combinations.

Our requirements change with the projects we receive, so we need both widely available and less common language pairs. A linguist working in a relatively unusual combination may be exactly the person required for a particular client, document or interpreting assignment.

The same applies to specialist expertise. We work across legal, technical, medical, pharmaceutical, scientific, financial, commercial, IT, software, audiovisual, institutional and other fields.

When registering, describe your real areas of expertise rather than selecting a very broad range of subjects without supporting experience. Accurate information makes it easier for our project managers to identify the right professional when a suitable assignment arises.

How to register as a LinguaVox collaborator

Applications are accepted exclusively through our online registration system.

The form is currently available in English and Spanish. It allows you to provide your professional details, language combinations, specialist fields, experience and other information needed to create your supplier profile.

Registration does not guarantee immediate work or a particular volume of assignments. When a suitable project arises, we search our database for professionals whose language pair, expertise, availability and experience match the requirements.

Providing complete and accurate information helps us assess whether your profile is suitable for future projects.

Online translation internships

LinguaVox hosts a limited number of translation students on online internships each year.

The programme is designed around practical translation work. Students are assigned translations that are subsequently reviewed by an experienced specialist. The reviewer corrects the work and adds comments explaining errors, terminology choices, stylistic issues and alternative solutions so that the student can learn from the revision process.

This approach gives students direct feedback on their work rather than simply asking them to complete translation exercises without professional review.

Places for 2027 are almost full, but we are still accepting applications from students interested in future online translation internships.
