ISO 17100 is relevant when the agreed service includes professional translation followed by independent revision by a second qualified linguist. ISO 18587 applies to full post-editing of machine translation output when that workflow suits the text type and the client's expectations. ISO 9001 underpins the broader quality-management structure behind the service.

These standards do not replace professional judgement. A certified document, a legal contract, a technical manual and a website localisation project each call for a separate assessment before the correct workflow is confirmed.
